This morning I walked through my neighborhood and picked up trash. It got me thinking about how liberating it is to work as a citizen without having to get blinded by politics. As I cleaned up the streets, I wasn’t being a gay, white, middle-class, college-educated male (although those might be some of the things politicians would invoke when talking about me and my actions). I was just a dude picking up trash. I was participating in defining the values of my community directly - with my hands, time, and intent.
One of my visions for New America is that we begin to view our neighbors more by their actions in the present moment than their political classifications - what are we doing right now to help make our neighborhood stronger?
What are your visions for New America?
